Greenwich Art Center is sponsoring a journal-painting workshop in northern Manhattan on October 16. This will be preceded by a lecture in Greenwich on October 10, at 5:30 pm.
After a hiatus of several years, James Lancel McElhinney is returning to teaching, with the world as his classroom. Developing a completely mobile painting practice, McElhinney has taken scenic plein-air painting to new levels. Apart from a purely visual response to terrain, light and weather, the landscape is explored in terms of history, science and environmental priorities–as an ongoing process of human intervention into the processes of nature
